Unfortunately, acid reflux is something with which most of us will have to contend with at one point or another in our lives. •Strong nausea after eating a meal.

There are some other symptoms which aren’t experienced very often, including: vomiting, coughing, trouble swallowing both solids and liquids, persistent hiccups, a change in the voice and a sore throat.

The Causes of Acid Reflux

So what exactly causes this condition? Well, there is actually a variety of risk factors which usually mix together when the time comes. These risk factors include: alcohol, obesity, pregnancy, scleroderma, smoking, poorly-developed muscles in the lower esophagus and hiatal hernia (a strange condition which causes a certain part of the stomach to go above the diaphragm).

It should also be mentioned that various medications such as beta-blockers, bronchodilators, anticholinergics, dopamine-active drugs, sedatives, tricyclic antidepressants, progestin and calcium channel blockers can also contribute to the development of acid reflux.

Holistic Treatment for Acid Reflux

So what kind of treatment is there for this condition? Well, to start things off, there are certain lifestyle changes it definitely wouldn’t hurt to bring into your life. For instance, you can change your diet to something much healthier, including more fruits and vegetables and less meats and junk foods. You should also avoid foods which your system doesn’t process very well (for instance, many people choose to forego spicy foods when fighting acid reflux). You should also remember to drink plenty of water and avoid common medication such as ibuprofen, aspirin and naproxen.

Treatment for Acid Reflux with Modern Medicine

Apart from bringing certain changes into your lifestyle you can also take certain over-the-counter prescription drugs. For starters, if you want fast relief (it won’t last a long time though), you can try taking anti-acids before meals and going to sleep. For a more permanent solution (which takes longer to work), you could try taking proton pump inhibitors and H2 blockers to decrease the amount of acid produced and released in the stomach. If you are looking for a treatment for acid reflux which will work when all else fails, then you may be looking at having anti-reflux operations done on you, such as fundoplication for example. It is possible you may still need to take heartburn drugs for some time after the operation.

    Apple cider vinegar can help. Enzymes can help. Tums can help. There are a nubemr of acid reducers that can help, Prilosec,Zantac, etc. Raising your upper body can help. But you might have a medical condition that needs to be evaluated by a doctor if it happens consistently. My father died from throat cancer caused by acid reflux.
