      I have been having this sbabting chest pain on and off for a year and this past month it has been constant.. its a sharp burning pain right between my breasts at the bottom of my sternum. I have had GERD/Acid reflux disease/hiatal hernia for the past 6 years. I have also been smoking for the past 6 years (and trying desperately to quit for 2) I’ve been to the hospital twice in the past two weeks and they can’t do anything. They say my lungs and heart are just fine and that i must be having an esophageal spasm. But the pain WONT go away my reflux has been almost untreated until the past few months when i actually had state insurance and got medicine.. i’ve been taking kapidex every day and it takes away the acid.. but not the chest pain i keep feeling like i have to cough.. but nothing comes up.. it just hurts to cough and after eating it hurts too.. I’m very afraid of esophageal cancer and my insurance ends monday.. i need to get an endoscopy.. the last one i had was 4 years ago when i was diagnosed with these heartburn problems.. but nothing since then Is this chest pain possibly being caused by cancer.. or is it just simply a spasm .

    I actually had some very seerve heartburn a few months back. I tried everything, even most of the heartburn home remedies listed above. Cinnamon and water did not work. Baking soda didnt work.       First of all, stressing out will make it worse, so take a deep beatrh and calm yourself down.If you are having an upper endoscopy done, if that’s what you mean by test, don’t worry about it. You should be quite comfortable during the procedure, it usually doesn’t take more than a few minutes, and they give you medicine to calm down and most likely sleep through the whole thing. They need to make sure that your acid reflux isn’t eating away at the lining of your esophagus, which can happen, especially if you are vomiting a lot. There are several medicines that you can try for these problems, that aren’t in pill form. Some are liquids!! There is also a chewable/rapid dissolving tablet form of Prevacid, so that might work well for you. Your doctor should know what he/she is doing, so let them do their job, and take their advice. Make sure they know you’re nervous, and that you have trouble swallowing pills. It sounds like you’re getting treatment, so don’t worry about it progressing to cancer or dying from it. If they find that the acid is in fact eating through the lining of the esophagus, it’s called Barrett’s esophagus, and it is treated with the acid reducing medicines I mentioned earlier.
