What Causes Heartburn?

The problem that people face when they suffer from heartburn is the fact that their esophageal sphincter does’t shut all of the way. This allows food and acid to come up into the throat and can cause all kinds of problems including inducing a burning sensation that is very uncomfortable and in a lot of cases painful.

What Behaviors Can Cause Heartburn?

Some of the main things that you might do that trigger heartburn are; eating large meals, lying down right after eating, exercising right after eating, and others. Below we will discuss each one in more depth.

1. Eating Large Meals

This one should be obvious. If you already deal with a malfunctioning sphincter, it is very likely that you are going to suffer from heartburn after eating a large meal. The reason why is because your food is already going to be extremely high in your stomach to the point where it can enter your esophagus very easily.

This is going to trigger a burning sensation depending what you consumed during the meal. If you have any acid in your meal at all, you are bound to suffer from heartburn effects. The good news is that there is a very simple fix for this occurrence.

The simple solution is going to be to eat less at every meals. Do not eat to the point where you feel ‘stuffed.’ Try to eat until you are full but do not over consume regularly. By watching your intake of food during each meal, not only are you more likely to be healthier overall, but you are also going to be more likely to not suffer from heartburn all of the time.

2. Lying Down After Eating

heart burnAnother thing that a lot of people do which results in heartburn is laying down after a meal. This is a big no-no. You never want to lay down right after you consume a meal because the food has not had a chance to finish the digestion process.

This means that the food is going to be more likely to enter your LES. It is essentially that you do everything that you can in order to allow your digestive system have the necessary time that it needs to finish and complete the process.

You need to be sure that you are giving your body the time that it needs to fully digest each meal. This will help you avoid experiencing any type of heartburn effects that you might experience when you used to lay down after you eat a meal.

3. Exercising After Eating

This is another thing that you are going to want to avoid doing. The fact is, exercising is one of the best things that you can do to get rid of heartburn symptoms. However, the fact is, you are not going to want to do it right after you eat. By doing this, you are more likely to experience heartburn symptoms because the food is not fully digested. The food is going to be more likely to enter your LES and cause problems.

exercisingDo your best to avoid experiencing this problem by avoiding exercising right after you eat and give your body enough time to fully digest the food that you eat during each meal. This should help avoid experiencing heartburn regularly.
